For years, Louie Duque and his brothers just wanted their life to be a little less boring. It had never seemed like a tall order, nor did it seem like the kind of wish that would come back to bite them in the butt. But things changed, or at least, they did for Louie. They'd all fallen in with The Losers Club, but Lou had specifically fallen for Richie Tozier. They both had their own reasons for pretending there was nothing different between them, but as of a few weeks ago, a day in the clubhouse took them from "friends who sometimes hold hands and kiss each other in secret" to flat-out Secret Boyfriends. And now, a boring life on a houseboat off the coast in Derry was just fine by Louie, because part of that was this special, wonderful something, just for him and Richie.

In retrospect, it seemed like just his luck that something would mess that up. But it really wasn't fair that something that sounded so perfect - a surprise rich uncle! - could ruin his life. At least, it sure felt like this development was ruining his life. Two. Towns. Away. To a teenager who was as smitten as could be, the distance might as well have been two planets away.

Louie found out about his uncle four days ago, and the whole gang had been told about that already. Dewey had been so excited to share the news. The whole "moving into a mansion" thing, though? That was something established yesterday afternoon. Louie has been sulking like a pro ever since, but he can't effectively guilt-trip Uncle Donald because that's the thing about a Secret Boyfriend - the relationship is a secret. (Dewey was baffled by Louie's unenthused reaction too... Huey might have known, but he was respectfully not saying anything.)

He knows he has to tell Richie, because the only thing worse than leaving would be leaving with no warning. So that evening, he's waiting for Richie to swim up to the houseboat without the usual excited anticipation. Instead, it's more like a gnawing dread as he sits on the deck, knees drawn close to his chest and arms crossed atop them.
